Beyond Hatton Road.
As far back as I can remember, my grandparents’ home on Hatton Road, in the storybook village of Carmel-by-the-Sea, defined what living beautifully truly means…
There are so many details I was enchanted by – Walls of French doors looking out onto graceful herringbone brick patios and terraced rose gardens, aquamarine fishing floats picked up on the beaches in Japan, highly polished ebony wood floors, and a fountain outside a picture window which could only be seen while soaking in a luxurious tub.
Words too often tossed about today – tastemaker, chic, elegant, globetrotter- truly do describe my grandmother, and her home was indeed an extension of herself. Her love of travel Beyond Hatton Road continually inspired her, and it was always intriguing to see how her latest holiday would inspire a new project in her home or gardens.
Yet as much as she traveled, she believed home to be the best place. I wholeheartedly agree!
